Today, we will be making a recipe that many people haven’t heard about. Fatayer is quite popular in the Arab world. So, get ready to dip your taste buds in this delicious Fatayer.
The cheese will melt in your mouth and the iconic crisp will make you fall in love with this recipe. The rich combination of flavors will flirt with everyone’s olfactory receptors, making them wonder about the secret of this recipe.
Fatayer is pockets filled with a filling. The outside is both soft and crispy at the same time. The best thing about this recipe is that you can try it with many different flavors. For example, you can add a chicken or mutton filling. If you want to go vegetarian, you can add spinach. Personally, I love Cheese Fatayer.
Traditionally, it was made with akkaw i cheese. However, you can add your favorite type of cheese to it. So, any cheese will do, whether it is mozzarella, feta, ricotta or cheddar cheese. If you are using mozzarella cheese, make sure that you add another type as well. Otherwise, you will not get a very strong taste. My personal favorite is feta cheese. This is because it is dry and has a nice tartness to it.
You can also add other ingredients in the filling. For example, cheese goes well with chopped parsley and mint leaves. The green of the parsley and mint will add more color to your dish. After you have added the cheese and parsley in your desired ratio, you have to add the egg to the filling. The egg will mix everything and make it a good filling. I would recommend tasting the filling after you have added the raw egg. If you need to add more cheese, do it at this time.
Fatayer can be made in any shape you want. The most common shapes are boat or triangular. You can also try unique shapes if you want. When I make it, I like to have an assortment of different shapes to make the dish look fancy.
After you have made the Fatayers, it is time to brush some oil on them. You can use a brush to oil it. If you don’t have a brush, you can also use the backside of the spoon. Make sure that you only grease the top with oil and don’t soak the Fatayer in oil. The purpose of the oil is to give it shine after the Fatayer has baked.
You can put them in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. The exact time depends on your oven. So, it is better that you open the oven and check it after 10 minutes. If the top is brown and crispy, it is time to take the tray out of the oven.
You can use these Fatayers as an appetizer or even breakfast. Everyone will fall in love with this innovative recipe. You can enjoy them warm or even at room temperature. Serve them in a platter and garnish with chopped parsley.
